How do i get my status card that says im native?

my grandma was adopted by white people and didnt have her status card b/c she married out. then she died. father died. still hv family who are native but are all non status indians. how do we get status cards?|||.

As I understand your question.

You believe your grandmother had no "Status" (reason unknown).

1. If she was born of First Nations parent(s) and was registered, then was adopted, there should be records. (which might mean she always had status but just lost contact with her First Nation).

2. If she was a registered "Status" Indian and married a Non-native, but had no contact with her First Nation, she may still have"Status" because that marriage would have not been registered.

3. If your grandmother's parent(s) were "Status Indians" and they or she lost Indian Status through the "laws of the day", then she could have regained her status under the 1985, Bill C-31. as well as all of her children. (for her children to have gained status they would have had to be 1/2 Indian by blood). If your grandmother was less than1/2 Indian by blood than her children would have not been entitled to be registered as Status Indians.

As you indicate your Indian bloodline is through your father, therefore Bill C-3 does not apply to you. Bill C-3 apply's to the grandchildren who's bloodline was through the mother, who were denied Status under Bill C-31, because Canada enforced a patrilineal system.

To be eligible for registration.

1. First of all you must be 1/4 Indian by blood. If you are less than 1/4 by blood you will not qualify for Indian Status.

2. You need to know which First Nation your grandmother was a member of, even if you research through INAC you have to have this information first.

If possible get her birth certificate and or the adoption papers to see if you can identify her parent(s)/First Nation.

If you can find out her parents names you may also be able to find them on the census information of the province where they lived. Most census are online.

Who Is Eligible for Registration?

http://www.ainc-inac.gc.ca/br/is/elig-en…|||I think you have to find out what tribe she's from and have proof of that your a part of that tribe. Once you do that then you can register into that band.
