What to do to save green card status?

My father have his greencard but he is sick and he went back to his home country. I do not want to give up his greencard but I want him to come whever he wants to. any suggestios?|||He can return after an absence of up to one year. However, if he only returns for a visit and then expects to return each year for a visit, he will in all liklihood at some


point be rightfully assumed to have abandoned his permanent resident status and be subject to exclusion.


If he were to surrender his green card, he should have no difficulty obtaining a visitor visa to use for periodic visits.|||If he resides in a country where there is a USCIS (immigration) office located at the US embassy, he can go there and complete form I-407 (Adandonment of Status


as Lawful Permanent Residence). If there is no USCIS office, a consular officer


likely has the form.

|||After abandonment of status a copy of the I-407 will help if he decides to apply for


a visitor visa.
