I just arrived in USA and waiting for my green card. IS there any way to check the status of my green card ?

can i check my green card status online.. they haven't given me any green card no.. and said it would take 3-4 months..i arrived on 21 sep.. how long does it usually take????|||You have a I-551 stamp in your passport thats a green card for a year
