Can someone out of status get married and apply for a green card?

Can a person out of status on a visitors or a students visa marry a U.S citizen and obtain a green card? To be specific the person came here on a student visa, she's out of status because she dropped out of college for about 1 year now and she has never left the U.S since. can she get married to her boyfriend (me) and get a green card even though she's out of staus? if you know the answer please share it but no guessing, assumptions or hateful answers PLEASE.

Thank you|||yes she can still apply,,, she will pay penalty for the years she overstayed though

and sure

cz my cousin had the same situation and married after he overstayed 4 years and now he has his gc

but to be on the safe side, fill wz an attorney|||if the visa expired---they have 181 days to go back home before they will have to remain in the country they came from for 3 years.....getting married does nothing.....that is a myth.

the trick was to have it reviewed before the expiration.....|||Get married and file to adjust status ..will you succeed .... you said no guessing ...or assumptions|||Absolutely, just maybe not the way you want to be!
