I want to divorce my husband. I got my green card because I was his wife when we came to USA two years ago. We still don't have citizenship. What happens if I divorce him now. Will I loose my US residency? Or can keep it and continue living in the USA|||If you're a holder of a green card already, nothing's going to happen. It doesn't change your immigration status. Naturalization might prove to be a little more difficult afterwards, but not much.
You don't have to fear of being deported because of your divorce, if more than two years have passed. Be sure to get situated first.
Good luck.|||do you have a 2 year or 10 year green card
if it just a 2 year go see an aila lawyer ... your chances are 50/50|||I assume you have a 10-year Green Card?
If so, nothing happens. Your status as a resident is unconditional. The only effect this has is that you have to wait until you have been a resident for 5 years until you can file for naturalization.|||Was your green card 2 year conditional one. If so, did you file I-751 Remove Condition jointly before your green card expired? If you get divorced before approval of I-751, you must reveal and include your divorce decrees to USCIS. Then wait for possible interview or decision.
If you haven't filed I-751, then you must file it with Wavier with divorce decrees. Either way, you must prove with evidence of documents that you entered into marriage with good faith, not for the green card.
If you had 10 year unconditional green card, then your Permanent Resident status is fine. You just have to wait 5 years from the green card approval date to file Naturalization to become US Citizen.
