If i get divorce after being married 4 years will that affect my green card status?

I was married out of the country in 2006.I came to the states in 2008 and I applied for my green card and received it in 2009 for 10 years. If I am the petitioner in the dissolution of marriage in 2011 does that effect the status of my green card?

Thank You in advance for your timely response!|||You will be OK - the issuance of a 10 year card comes after the determination that the marriage was not fraudulent. (Among other things!) You can apply for citizenship on your own.|||Yes you can get divorced, NO it will not affect your green card period, he NOR the government will ask you to leave in any way.

You also might want to have in the back of your mind that the support order he signed to get you in to the USA in the first place is STILL in effect, which means he is STILL liable for you and your needs, so if he starts being a donkey you at least have that in the back of your mind SHOULD you want to use it.|||Once you have your 10 YEAR PERMANENT GREEN CARD, you can do whatever you want. Divorce is not going to affect your status. But if you have your 2 year conditional green card, of course it will affect your status because you need your spouse to remove the condition.

And like the other answers here said, your US citizen spouse is still responsible for you even after you two divorced. So if he wants to be an a**, you can sue him and he will have to pay back the government, that is the agreement he signed in the Affidavit of Support. He is responsible for you for 10 years, until you become a US citizen, you leave the US for good, he dies or you die.

KHRYZTAL-Yes!|||Is that the same for a US Citizen married to a non-US Citizen but the husband became a legal resident in the US because his wife was an US Citizen? The wife petitioned her husband to come to the US to stay and live with her.|||If you have a 10 year green card you are free and clear after divorce

the US citizen still has the affidavit of support over his head ...even after divorce

you cannot be deported thats stupid|||if your spouse is an american citizen they can petition to have you deported after divorce and if that happens there is NO return for you
